The Credit Union Leaders’ Association (CULA) is pleased to announce the continued sponsorship of the ‘Alan Marentette Leader of the year Award’ and introduce the sponsorship for our new ‘Alan Marnetette Emerging Leader Award’.

What is the Alan Marentette Leader of the Year Award?

The late Alan Marentette was a leader in the Credit Union system for over four decades. Among his many contributions and accomplishments, Alan was one of the original founders of the Credit Union Managers Association (CUMA), which was established in 1990. Alan exemplified the high standards of leadership and service that the Credit Union system thrives from by his way of authentic care, compassion and understanding of leading forward cooperatively for the greater good of all. This award is designed to recognize those Credit Union professionals who exemplify a high standard of leadership and service to the Credit Unions, their owners and communities.

*NEW FOR 2019*

The CULA Board is excited to introduce a new Emerging Leader award! An Emerging Leader is an individual who emulates the same high standard of leadership Alan was known for within their Credit Union, the Credit Union system and their community however does not have any direct reports.

Each recipient of these prestigious awards will receive:

  •  A $500 donation made on their behalf to the Ontario Credit Union Foundation.

  • An individual award of recognition to proudly display in their office.

  • A letter of recognition for their achievement.

  • A feature on the CULA website.

Who should be nominated?

Leader of the Year Award

The ideal candidate for the Alan Marentette Leader of the year Award demonstrates high standards of leadership within their Credit union, the Credit union system and their community.  Keeping in mind CULA’s mission statement, “To actively promote and work towards a strong and professional Credit Union system through education, communication and networking opportunities.”, the successful candidate will be selected based on the contributions of the individual to serve those around them.If you know someone that you feel deserves recognition for their contributions, we invite you to submit their name for nomination. Candidate must be working in a Leadership position in an Ontario Credit Union.  Anyone previously nominated, who has not won the award, is again eligible. 

Emerging Leader of the Year Award

The ideal candidate for the Alan Marentette Emerging Leader of the year Award demonstrates high standards of leadership within their Credit Union, the credit union system and their community.  Keeping in mind CULA’s mission statement, “To actively promote and work towards a strong and professional Credit Union system through education, communication and networking opportunities”, the successful candidate will be selected based on the contributions of the individual to serve those around them.  If you know someone that you feel deserves recognition for their contributions, we invite you to submit their name for nomination.  Candidate must be working in a non-leadership position in an Ontario Credit Union. 

Nomination process:

  1. Identify a Leader or Emerging Leader you feel is deserving of this prestigious award. All full, part-time, contract and consultants' employees of an Ontario based credit union are eligible for this award.

  2. Nominations must include the information found on the respective nomination form which can be downloaded below:

  3. Submit the completed nomination form and supporting information by September 1, 2019 directly to Scott Lister, as on of three CULA Directors that comprise the selection committee:
